Canada Fireworks on May 24 Weekend Victoria Day

As a kid the best fireworks displays were always arranged by the local municipality, without any thought of Queen Victoria or her birthday. The best fun as a kid with fireworks however, was the backyard display where you actually could light the bangers under supervision. Allen Levine comments on the fun and the history of this public Statutory Holiday taking place across Canada. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/fyi/emvictoria-emrules-122380988.html

Check out the various locations here on this page for a number of May 24 fireworks displays

Ontario Summer Fun: 3 Day Weekends All Summer?

Live your ultimate dream...a four day work week and a 3 day summer fun long weekend, every weekend. In today's Globe and Mail Michael Posner asks the question "Is there anything nicer than weekend in spring? Actually there is-a three day weekend in spring!!" Lets apply this not only to Ontario Summer's but to all four seasons.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/relationships/the-three-day-weekend-a-dream-deferred/article2030623/

I know of many friends who actually defer their holiday vacation time to 3 Day weekends...it is a matter of will and planning...Ontario resort destinations offer lots of summer fun opportunities for those willing to plan a head and book those weekends away in Ontario. See our long weekends getaways. Remember there are three long weekends left for the summer. Start with the Canada Day Long Weekend http://www.400eleven.com/long-weekend.html#canada or make Father's Day a three day summer fun weekend with dad.

Ontario Canada Getaways Vacations Start May 24

Lake Simcoe Cottage Country Getaways
One of the great traditions if you own a cottage is to leave work early of the Friday before Victoria Day and head north to Ontario's "Cottage Country". The first big getaway weekend of the summer is one of great anticipation for outdoor enthusiasts wanting to get the boat in the water or be the first for the lakeside plunge. If you don't own a cottage being invited is always a treat. This past weeks Globe and Mail had an article on how to get invited to the cottage and then how to behave as an invited guest at the cottage. See How To Score A May 24 Cottage Invite http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/relationships/news-and-views/live-better/how-to-score-a-cottage-invite/article2021553/
Many visitors to cottage country have no intentions of ever buying a property, but do not hesitate to head north in Ontario for a getaway weekend or vacation in one of the many resort destinations north of Toronto Canada. Lake Simcoe is one of the closest resort destinations to Toronto.

Altberg Nature Reserve Kawarthas Volunteer Tourism

Volunteer tourism at the Altberg Nature Reserve was an enjoyable Ontario Outdoors experience this past May 14 weekend. The annual amphibian search took place with about 10 volunteers counting a variety of species including the Yellow Spotted Salamander, Red-backed Salamanader. Additional species identified were Green Frogs, Wood Frogs, Garter Snakes. Sounds of the American Toad could be heard during the days event.

Visiting an Ontario Nature Reserves is one of Ontario's best deals because it is a free attraction. There were a number of marked trails in the Altberg Reserve where I intend on returning in the near future.
